Come Rain Or Shine!

The day before yesterday it was 8 degrees Celsius and everybody thought that winter was over -or not coming.
Yesterday winter struck! Minus 5 degrees Celsius and 20m/s winds (gale!) (windchill factor of - 29 degrees Celsius!) meant no trains or buses running -I had to walk 3 kilometres home in that blizzard. It was firkin cold. Naturally I was wrapped in the best clothes money can buy for situations like that - so it was not a problem , more an experience.

Suttonho asked me so I thought I'd write a bit about why I took these photos.

I pass the crane everyday and I have been wanting to take pictures of it for a very long time.
I am saving up for a bigger thing on industrial buildings and machines - if I can call it that. Have a look at Flickr and see my night shots of HC Ørstedsværket as well. It's the same fascination. These giants that use to be the absolute icons of power, wealth and state of the art technology. Now they live a more quiet life, even though they still work and preform there duties. Other technologies have taken over the lead position. Spending time photographing these buildings and places for me is like listening to stories from the old days. I my opinion history constantly flows around us, and when we move into specific places we pass history-specific flows that we can tap right into if we care to do so. To give you an example I go to school at Holmen this was the navel base where the English seized all our ships in 1807 after delivering the first missile bombardment i history. I look out my window and see the actual gunboat sheds from that time.
The building I sit in use to be the quarters for the navel personel on duty here. They have inscribed there names, cities of origin and dates. There are Danish ones from 1870ties still visible - to German ones from WW2 with swastika and eagle - to prisoners of war. It goes on and on and on. I find many people don't see these layers that I do. It is an integrated part of my life and it has always been this way -thanks to my dad. I always listen to my surroundings and try to discover what stories they want to tell me.

More fantastic light yesterday

You have seen it before: The Electrical plant HC Ørstedsværket, built on landfill for the city of Copenhagen by architect Andreas Fussing finished in 1920 . Architect Louis Hygom greatly expanded the plant in 1924 and 1932.

Seconds later (or 75m later) Town hall 101 meters. What is so great about this time a year is when the sun decides to show up early the trajectory is SOOO low it gives off a completely different light -almost flat.

Ministry of defence.... a bit further down the road Arne Jacobsens FANTASTIC national bank of Denmark -notice the entrance - the small black square "on top" of the windshield of the car. It's said to be the smallest entrance to any national bank - but trust be you will have an architectural mind blowing experience when you enter. No - no gold, shields emblems in the floor or any of that cheap crap. The road continues....Last picture passing the cool Knippelsbro over the harbour to Christians Havn.

Gathering Cantrell's Christmas eves day

The only place in Denmark with sunshine on Christmas eves day :Bornholm, aka Sunshine Island.

Here our search for Canterelles (which my English dictionary says the are called) began.











We gathered them on the other side of the lake.

Beleive it or not all these shots are done with my cellphone too.

Hiding in the pine forest soil -There you are. 800 grams to be exact!

Going home around 4 o'clock just before sunset

The easy part is the gathering the more boring and dangerous is the cleaning and eating part.

We dried them so we can use them all through the winter; they shrink to a mere 55 grams -from originally 800!But I tell you on a frying pan with butter and scrambled eggs on top BOY do they taste good!
